Music Impacting Our Behaviors?

In my little country there is much talk today as to whether music is influencing the attitudes and mannerisms of our children. Strange enough, some of the people who deny music having any impact are ‘musicians’ themselves. There is even talk about whether the dance moves are teaching our children early sexual behaviors.

The original translation of the word music comes from a word which means 'to think'.

Music influences the human mind, spirit, soul and emotions in various ways.

Let us look at what are some of the uses of music:

Music is used to:

  • Celebrate

  • Conjure evil spirits

  • Put a person into a trance

  • Worship

  • Entertain

Music creates a certain mood or feeling within all of us. Different music will have different effect on each person. In past times and to a lesser extent today, music is used to summon the troops to prepare for battle. The use of the trumpet is one such instrument used for signaling.

The sound of music naturally causes movement in the human body. We move to the pulsating rhythm of music without any conscious effort. The body just naturally will gyrate to a rhythm.
The Music videos and the music itself dictate trends, fashions and even help with the development of what becomes culture.

Our Rappers, DJs, Singers and Musicians command a certain power over their listeners or their audience. I could give numerous examples of how music has influenced the development of what is called the rich Jamaican culture.

In conclusion, this is not something we can deny. If there are uncertainties then it has to do with the degree of the impact of music on the human mind and how does it influence their behavior.

The world is still not so sure of the full effects of music upon the human mind. This still remains something to be properly researched and explored.

This is what the bible tells us:“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according

I'm Not Perfect

What would you think if I were to walk around with a BIG sign posted on my chest advertising all my weaknesses and the stuffs I wasn't so good at?

You would probably say I was strange.

Does it make a difference whether a person admits their weakness up front as against you finding it out? What is your take on it?

For those of my friends with children, how do your children react when they suddenly realize mom and dad aren't so perfect after all? Would it make it easier to handle if we told them up front what our struggles are?

I raise my hat to those persons who are able to have and maintain a fully balance life. You eat healthy all the time, get enough sleep, keep all your appointments, spend the extra time that your job demands, time for church, time for God, time for family, your friends and your community, exercise and so on and so forth. I really raise my hat to you if you are able to do all that while not frustrating yourself in the process.

This is hard but here goes, I'm not perfect. See, it wasn't so bad after all. I have a few cracks. I believe this is the main reason why we all have to forgive, both self and others. It make sense, since I'm not perfect you have got to be prepared to forgive me as I will get somethings wrong sometimes. Hey! Come on, forgive yourself, I did; now I am free.

Fix It Attitude

Is it true that the man generally have a greater tendency to fix what gets broken around the house? Mmmhh!
This is one of the things I have accepted and grown to love. It really is something I enjoy doing. I like fixing things especially just to see the joy on the faces. When things are right, who isn’t happy?

This morning as I was getting ready to shower for work, I noticed the toilet pipe kept on running with no sound as though the tank would reach its maximum anytime soon. The float was not triggering the water to stop flowing, i thought to myself. After completing my shower, I proceeded to remove the cover from the water tank, quickly diagnosed the problem, had it corrected in seconds and was on my merry way. It felt really good.

Women love it when their man is able to fix and care for the things around the house. I have just recently leant that the main reason a woman tend to get so worked up or be so meticulous about the way her house looks is simply because her house is a reflection of her. Is this really true? If it is, I like the idea.

I believe in my quest to be a better man for 2008 I will have to fix more of things which are broken. Men, this is something our women are relying on us to do, FIX IT!

When is Love Alone not Enough?

I grew up hearing two conflicting thoughts on love.
The first idea was that once you love someone you can always work things out. Love is everything. The Bible also tells us that Love will cover a multitude of sin. Hundreds of songs written and performed imploring us that what the world needs is love. But when is it that love alone isn't enough?

The second thought around is that love alone will not keep a relationship together. Love alone won't work. “I thought I love him or her and that it could work out.” That is the aching voice of another heart break. Some persons even said that love will not be able to buy food when you are hungry nor clothe you when you are naked.

Then I ask yet again, when is love alone not enough?

As I am writing this I believe that the deficiencies are as a result of an unbalanced equation. Perhaps if everyone was aiming to balance it out then love alone would be enough.
If we all held love as our highest goal it perhaps would be enough.

What do you think?

Accused of being a Smiley

Even today, I am known to be a smiling person. I have found that people who smile a lot are some of the most pleasant people in the world.

Another thing is that a smile is contagious; if you don’t believe me, try it yourself. Just smile at someone today and watch their response. I wish for you a day filled with smiles; they may not solve all your problems but they'll certainly help to soothe what ails you.

What Stays in Your Memory Most?

As I was taking time out to relax earlier today I asked myself an all important question.
What lodge or reside in my memory more, good or bad experiences?
Which take up more of my memory space, first or last time experiences?

I have realized that the things we do today, tomorrow and hereafter is greatly impacted by whatever saturates our memory most. Our memories help to determine our future behaviors, I would say. It is almost like a receptacle. If it is a garbage receptacle then the consequences are going to be damaging and unpleasant. If it is a sterilized mind then the quality of our life will be super.

God desires that we saturate our memory with pleasant experiences and filter the tragic and detestable ones. One day while I was traveling to school I witnessed a very tragic motor vehicle accident along the main road where I use to live. It was such a horrifying experience that from where I was standing I could see body parts. One child was literally cut in two and there were signs of his intestine on the ground. This experience has never left my mind since that day.

I know I will certainly have to do some mind spring cleaning. But what do you say? What stays in your memory most?

For me, I dwell a lot on the good stuff.

The Way a Woman Carries Her Hair

Most men take time out to admire beautiful ladies and particularly well done creative hair-do. I have always held the view that the way a woman carries her hair says a lot about her personality; which tells us whether she is a boring person or very adventurous. Yes! all this by just the way she carries her hair.

From the repeated styling of a woman's hair I can tell whether she is reserved or extravagant, whether she spends all her time caring for her hair and ignore her house or vice a versa.
Every time I enter into a discussion like this one I win the attention of the ladies. Some even admit that they suffer from bad hair days very often.

As someone who love people in general, ladies who get my attention are those who do a good job with their hair.
Some persons may disagree with me. But whatever your argument, some ladies are always creative regardless of the money and time factor.

Girls Who Give Guys Mixed Signal

I know there will be those who would like to see the heading revised to read, “Guys who hastily misread girls’ signal”
But, if you have ever been misled by a girl then you know exactly how it feels to be oh so wrong, about what you thought felt oh so right! As a youngster I had many female friends which somehow gave me a better understanding of the female specie than my male peers did. I have always been cautious of the fact that you could fall for someone who never even as much as know your name. Read on let me share a little secret with you.

Girls who are very friendly and easy to interact with are most likely the ones to find themselves in this love-ring, whether knowingly or not. A technique I have used in the past, which worked for most of the time, was to always declare my hand. “Yes, we are just friends”. I would make sure to outline my intentions from the outset. Some may also argue that even with the ‘caution clause’ love sometimes doesn’t play by the rules.

The other matter is: Are the girls really misleading the guys or is it that the guys are just expecting too much too quickly? Whatever the case, the tables do turn. Let those who have something up their sleeves, declare it early.

The fact is this could happen to anyone. You can be so magnetically drawn to the person without even knowing it; especially for those who do not do regular ‘emotional inventory’.
Let us not have a fight over who is more misleading. Our varying personality is what makes life so exciting and interesting. When in doubt, just ask. If he or she is worth it, then go for it. Remember timing is everything

How Does Color Affect Your Moods?

I am curious to know whether there is anybody else out there like me. I find that colors such as blue, green and purple seem to make me come alive. I use to attend a high school where the students would wear purple ties and I guess that has contributed to me liking purple, but then, I am amazed at the way colors affect my mood.

Check this out...on any given day when I am not feeling so well or "not so hot". I find that if I wear something with my favorite colors it just miraculously transform my day. It is almost like a female with her hair, she really did not think much of it, yet she receives numerous compliments for it. That has the potential to just make her day and sweep her off her feet.
I have realized that colors are directly related to the way I feel about myself, others and my environment. What do you think?

How Do Highly Successful Women Find Love?

I am concerned at the fact that I am not seeing many women who are highly successful being married.
It is a growing and worrying trend.
Is it that successful women and marriage do not make a good mix?

I find in our culture that the woman who are the big bosses in top companies are usually unmarried and often times if they are married, that usually changes.
Is it something worth considering over?
Is it that highly successful women will not be able to hold a stable relationship or is it that men are not able to deal with successful women or is it a mixture of both?

One common thought is that when a woman becomes the bread winner, she takes on the role of being the hunter, the chaser. A role which in the past was predominantly occupied by men.
We perhaps need to dialogue with highly successful women.
It is quite an interesting fact, what do you think?

We Could Learn a Thing or Two about Patience

We Could Learn a Thing or Two About Patience

"There are two main things in life that teach me the virtue of patience, a child and an old car."

Your initial response may be to laugh, but this is so true.

In my everyday affairs, I have been taking note just how impatient persons can be.

My Darling wife admits that she struggles with patience; they are constantly at odds with each other.
I grew up with four brothers and four sisters and interestingly no two siblings behave the same.
Some are more patient than others but I want to share something with you that will change your life.I have made a few discoveries about Patience.
Quite often the person who requires more patience finds it difficult to exercise patience.
Here goes the first principle:
  • Whatever you need you are going to find it difficult to give.
There is also a twin side to this thing.
We usually say that an impatient person is someone who exercise very little patience when dealing with others, but that is only half of the whole.
Whenever we are dealing with an impatient person we must exercise a greater level of patience. This therefore validate principle No. 1I found this principle holds true for all the other virtues: love, kindness and so on.
A loving person is not only someone who loves others easily but that person is always easy to love.
When I shared this startling discovery with my wife she was amazed.
The entire discovery has caused me to redefine some of the essential characteristics of life.

It even gets better when I tell you about principle No. 2

Let Love Be Your Highest Goal

Everybody will be talking about love over the next few days or so. Today, while having my morning devotion I came across this truly profound and amazing scripture which states the caption above.

"Let Love be your highest goal". I was reading 1 Corinthians 14: 1 when I found it.

Isn't it rather interesting how we pursue so many things, wealth, career, romance and a whole host of other stuff.
Yet we miss this simple and purposeful reason to life? love. I pray you all will have more love and more love.

Love is one of the most precious gifts God has given us.

It is the most thought about, sang about virtue of all time.
It is often misunderstood, misjudged and confused with other things.

Since I read this I am more convinced that this is exactly what the world needs, so I'm not going to give up on giving more love.

Don't be blinded by 'love-in-a-box'.  Love must be extended beyond your family and friends.
Love must be extended beyond your romantic counterparts and pursuits.

Love is the greatest - give it - share it.

So now I am even more committed to loving others much more than I did before.
I want to withhold nothing in me from 'God-access'.

God performs His agenda through love.

We should do the same...
