Author Brings 360 Degrees Of Influence, Inspiration For Jamaica's Children

Author Brings 360 Degrees Of

Influence, Inspiration For Jamaica’s Children

Published:Sunday | November 17, 2019 | 12:40 AMChristopher Thomas - Gleaner Writer -

WESTERN BUREAU:
While Jamaica has had several intervention programmes for steering children away from negative behaviours and influences, author and publisher Dr Jermaine Gordon has aspired to positively influence children, their parents and teachers through his Inspiring Our Future 360 Degrees programme since its launch in 2015.
The programme, which has been taken into some 65 schools across Jamaica over the last four years, uses music and journaling activities for students up to the high-school and college level as a way of allowing them to express their thoughts and feelings. Parents and teachers are also targeted with the aim of helping them to better understand how to relate to the children under their care.
Gordon told The Sunday Gleaner that the programme started out of his desire to address society’s decrease in morality. According to him, he was inspired to create Inspiring Our Future after seeking divine wisdom on how to resolve that concern.
“I started this programme about four years ago, in response to some concerns I had when I looked at the society’s decaying morals and values. I asked myself, ‘What kind of intervention is necessary to fix some of these issues that we’re seeing coming from our young people’?” Gordon recalled.
“I sought the Lord and asked Him what I could do to help the society, and He said to me, ‘Use what I have given you, the arts.’ I am gifted in the arts, as I play various instruments, I do painting, and I am the author of colouring books and journals through a publishing company that I have.”
For this year, Gordon and his associates want to take the Inspiring Our Future programme to 200,000 children across Jamaica. Since January, they have gone to 24 schools in three different parishes, encouraging students to focus on forgiveness instead of taking revenge and acting violently against persons who have wronged them.

200,000 CHILDREN TO BE EXPOSED

“We want to expose at least 200,000 children to the programme this year, and we want to just go in and make presentations, use storytelling with music, and bring home our points and messages. We encourage forgiveness, and we talk about the fact that we’re advocates of forgiveness because that is playing a key role in how our society behaves, where there’s a never-ending saga in which we retaliate,” Gordon explained.
“Since this year alone we have done about 24 schools in St James, St Catherine and Kingston. The feedback has been quite positive and tremendous, and even now we’re looking at how we can do more. The tools we use are both preventative and corrective, in terms of preventing potential violence and correcting it as well.”
Students who take part in the programme are encouraged to write in journals and play music as a means of redirecting their energies from violence and other negative outlets. The programme also analyses and provides assistance in developing the relationships students have with parents and teachers.
“We give the children journals that are for 40 days in which they are supposed to journal their issues. We encourage them to vent on the pages of their journal, so whatever is bothering you, instead of venting on another student, you vent on the page of your journal,” Gordon explained.
“When we say 360 degrees, we’re also looking at it from the parenting perspective, from the home perspective, from the school perspective, and in other areas where children interact,” Gordon added. “We want to impact parents and also teachers, those persons who impart information to children, because how many teachers know how to identify a gifted child versus thinking the child talks too much and needs to sit down?”
The objective of Gordon’s programme is similar to the Violence Prevention Alliance’s (VPA) Child Resiliency Programme, which began in 2006 as an outreach arm of the Hope United Church. That programme, which began operating out of the VPA in 2014, promotes the physical, social, cognitive, vocational, and moral competence of pre-adolescents.
There are also parallels to the Ministry of Justice’s child diversion programme, which is scheduled to be rolled out this month and is designed to steer children away from wayward activities.

A COVID-19 Prayer and Other Sicknesses

I have asked the Lord to do this for you:

If you’ve got an *unwanted guest* in your body such as an infection, virus, inflammation or disease of any sort.

I pray that without hesitation your immune system will step in, like a bouncer who means business.

I command your body to release white blood cells and other chemicals that will destroy these threats right now in the name of His son Jesus Christ.

That elite squad of agents that zap invaders in your body -- like bacteria, viruses, and fungi -- In this hour, we come into agreement that they must now zoom through your entire body and defend you, powered by the blood of Christ Jesus.

We close all ports of entry into your body by these viruses and activate the wisdom needed to stay well and healthy in this hour.

If you are not ill, as these aliens position themselves to attack your body they will not be able to get in through a cut, ride in on something you ate, filter through the air, or wait on a coin for you to touch it and then rub your eyes.
It shall not happen in Jesus' name.

In the time of trouble, God promises He will hide you in His Pavillion.

Say with me:
White blood cells, do your work now in my body as you aim to destroy these unwelcome guests.
Hack the germs code and destroy them.
My body will not fight against itself.

I thank God for His supernatural power at work in me right now.

Amen 🙏

The Miserable Rhetoric

You are miserable because
Someone stepped on your ego
Someone fail to satisfy your yearning libido

Someone said the wrong things about you
Someone disappointment is making you blue

Someone missed place your stuff
Someone have you thinking, “I have had enough!”

Someone’s sulking driving you up the walls so infectious
Someone robbed you of your precious

Someone is tearing your name apart
Someone made you feel like disappearing like a fart

Someone is not like you
Someone lied to you

Not living their life according to your beliefs
Oh what grief

But…

The physically suffering children
The people who abuse, hate and kill them

The starving and hungry doesn’t make you sad
Their innocent blood on the streets doesn’t make you feel bad

No misery for me,
In the name of love and justice make whatever it you are about
Really count

Choose Your Echo

Today a fellow musician and friend shared this profound lesson with me, a lesson worth recounting and worth sharing.

✍ Choose ur Echo
-------------------
A man was taking his son on a walk in a nearby forest. Suddenly the boy tripped and feeling a sharp pain, he screams "AHHHH!"
Surprised, he hears a voice coming from the mountain, "AHHHH!" He was taken aback as it was his first experience of an echo.
Filled with curiosity, he screams: "Who are you?", but the only answer he received was , "Who are you?"
This made him angry, so he shouted, "You are a coward!" and the voice answered "You are a coward!"
He looked at his father and asked "Dad what's going on. Whose he talking back at me?"
"Son," the man replies, " pay attention. Say something nice to him
Then he screams, "I love you!"  The voice answers, "I love you!"
Realising his son's confusion the man takes over the conversation with nature and shouts
"You are wonderful!" and the voice answered, "You are wonderful!"
The boy is thrilled but still can't understand what is going on.
The father explains, "Son, people call this an ECHO, but truly it is LIFE.  Life always gives you back what you give out.  Life is a mirror of your actions.
If you want more love, give more love.  If you want more kindness, give more kindness.  If you want understanding and respect, give understanding and respect.  If you want people to be patient with you, then be patient with them.
This rule of nature applies to every aspect of our lives. An echo is nature's way of teaching us to do unto others what we wish them to do to us and wish for others what we wish for ourselves.
Life always gives you back what you give out...
Your life is not a coincidence, but a mirror of your own doings.
Choose your ECHO ! Send out blessings and receive blessings in return.

My echo to you today is love, peace and happiness. Send me back your echo.🙏🙏😇🌟

TWO NEW SINGLES RELEASE: YAG & HGFM

TWO NEW SINGLES RELEASE: ‘YOU ARE GOD – CHILDREN’S VERSION’ (ENGLISH AND SPANISH) AND ‘HOLY GHOST FIRE MEDLEY’

‘Save our children’, the plight that echoes around the world, spurred noted contemporary psalmist, writer, author and artiste Jermaine D. Gordon into action. Lending his voice to the cause, Gordon is set to release the children’s version of one of his most loved hit songs, YOU ARE GOD (Holy & Righteous), recorded in both English and Spanish. The song showcases the rich, beautiful and innocent voices of fifteen students from seven of the inner city schools in Kingston, Jamaica, adding a sentimental tone to the uplifting, inspiring track.
‘Our children are not singing the way they are supposed to’, says Gordon, ‘Their voices have a key role to play in the advancement of any well-thinking society and as such this must be preserved according to Psalm 8:2’.
Supporters and fans of Jermaine D. Gordon will be able to dance and move to the pulsating beat of the ‘Holy Ghost Fire Medley’, a bonus track that Gordon will release in conjunction with the children’s version of YOU ARE GOD‘Holy Ghost Fire Medley’ captures the deep, authentic Jamaican sound which was more popular during Gordon’s childhood years. In Gordon’s own words: ‘These are the types of songs we use to sing from our spirits when the burdens and pressures of life became agonizing. We sang them to encourage and reassure ourselves that better days are coming, while the singing experience left us with a much-elevated faith and spirit.’
Both songs were written and arranged by Jermaine D. Gordon, with supporting production credits given to Othneil (Ottey) Lewis and Dwain Campbell-Fletcher (Barbwiya music). The children’s song is the first of twelve tracks to be included in a forthcoming project titled ‘Let the Children Sing’, in which inner-city children and choirs sing Jamaican gospel music.
On March 21, 2018, both singles are expected to be available online on iTunes, CD Baby, and other online music distribution websites, as well as on the artist's official website: www.jermainedgordon.com.

Jermaine Gordon To Release Latest Single, Heal Our Land

Jermaine Gordon To Release Latest Single, Heal Our Land

Kingston, Jamaica – Internationally acclaimed, award-winning song writer and Gospel Artiste, Mr. Jermaine Gordon, is proud to announce the release of his latest single, Heal Our Land. Starting November 27, 2017, the single will become available through Mr. Gordon’s website, www.jermainedgordon.com. To celebrate the single’s release, Mr. Gordon will make a special offer to his fans, making Heal Our Land available for free download from his website, for up to 48 hours after its release.
Mr. Gordon has written and performed three hit songs from his debut album: You Are God, Holy & Righteous, My Shackles Are Broken and Thine is the KingdomYou Are God, Holy & Righteous is Mr. Gordon’s most popular single to date, receiving constant airplay, throughout the past five years, in the Caribbean, USA, Columbia, Kenya and Ghana.
Heal Our Land is a cry for healing, and for God to teach people to love one another, as, according to Mr. Gordon, “He is, after all, Love, and He is Compassion.” Partly inspired by the true story of an impoverished mother-of-fourteen, who has seen some of her children grow up to become a scourge to society, Mr. Gordon commented on the song’s hapless protagonist, saying that “As she aged and became sickly she also suffered emotional pain from being neglected by her children and grandchildren.”
The song was recorded during a spirited, live-instrument recording session, which took place in the island of Jamaica. Heal Our Land is one of the 12 tracks in total that are included in Mr. Gordon’s much-anticipated new album, which is set to be released in early 2018.
Heal Our Land may also be downloaded through texting the word ‘HEAL’ to a given telephone number.
Starting November 28th, 2017, Heal Our Land will be available on iTunes, CD Baby and other online music distribution websites. Part of the proceeds from the song’s sales will be donated to charity.

BAD TALK and BAD THINKING

I have found that my nation speaks so badly and destructively; we are constantly cussing, swearing and ripping each other to pieces with our tongue.

- Husbands ripping wives to pieces...
- Wives ripping husbands to pieces...
- Outsiders ripping marriages to pieces...

- Parents speaking so badly about their children and
- Children learning the habits and ways of the parents...

- Teachers cussing children and children cussing teachers...

- Adults who have nothing good to say about their boss, their church leaders, government and the list goes on...

- Broken friendships speaking badly and revealing secrets...

These are all as a result of how we think about each other... and to an extend how we also see ourselves...

Think kind thoughts towards each other...

Will you?

Their is an evil desire in so many of us to control the way people behave and think and so when others are not like us, we cuss and spread all kinds of stuff about them...

It is way too easy to have "magga dawg tun roun an bite yu afta yu sorry fi him."

The truth is so many are unhappy with themselves yet they are still determined to change others to be like them...

Our phone conversations are loud, boisterous and filled with gossip and other people's affairs...

If disrespectful/dishonorable speaking was a crime then the entire nation would perhaps be placed behind bars...

We judge and often are so wrong with our judgement while creating more mischief and confusion...

It is not a surprise that Solomon says much speaking leads to much sin...

Yes we have crime, violence, scamming, corruption and a host of other ills...

But many have killed others without pulling a trigger...

So many have taken their own lives because of what was said...

We must begin to look at how we treat each other...

We must...we must not believe that we must always have an opinion on everything...

Don't be quick to speak...shut you mouth...

On the scene of an accident, check how quickly and easily we pronounce the person dead?

The irony of it all:
Some things we believe are the worse and others we tolerate but do you know how many lives have been lost because of words and what others say and think?

We need a wake up call...

Our tongue is evil and so we are reaping the harvest of what we have sown in every aspect of our lives...

Today and everyday I am making a recommitment to speak better of my people and to think kind thoughts towards them...

When will begin to teach our people to lift up their heads and cleanse their mouth, and wash their evil thoughts?

- Speak kind words...
- Think kind thoughts...

Who knows my kind words might just let God give a guilty man or woman another chance... who doesn't need a second chance?

When I say I am a Christian

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow

Short skirts and more...

A girl bought an iPad. When her father saw it, He asked her "What was the 1st thing you did when you bought it?

"I put an anti-scratch sticker on the screen and bought a cover for the iPad" she replied.

"Did someone force you to do so?"
- "No"

"Don't you think it's an insult to the manufacturer?"
- "No dad! In fact they even recommend using a cover for the iPad"

"Did you cover it because it was cheap & ugly?"
- "Actually, I covered it because I didn't want it to get damage and decrease in value."

"When you put the cover on, didn't it reduce the iPad's beauty?"
- "I think it looks better and it is worth it for the protection it gives my iPad."

The father looked lovingly at his daughter and said,"Yet if I had asked you to cover your body which is much more precious than the iPad, would you have readily agreed???"

She was mute.....

Do you always have to be reminded?

Do you need reminders of important things?
Sometimes no matter how important some things are, some folks still need a little nudge every now and again.

I have seen parents become so angry at their child not taking home his/her pencil from school when the grownups sometimes don’t even know who last borrowed their pen.
I know, that right there is for another blog…

(Smile)

The writer Peter said, “So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.” – 1 Peter 2:12
After that verse he went on to say in verse thirteen:

“I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,
It is always good to be in a position to be able to remind others of what is good and godly.

I believe that once we are gentle with our reminders and kind people are usually more apt to receive, of course it a few exceptions.
We must not become offended by others nonchalant attitude towards God and the things of God.
We must not become offended by others nonchalant regard for the things we hold dear.

Every moment is a moment to grow, share, love and believe.
Our human nature more often than not will lead us down the wrong path.

Look at this…

Peter then went on to say in verse 15 of said chapter that he wanted to leave a good legacy
“And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

My question to you now is very simple.

What lessons did you learn or were reminded of during the month of May (the month just ended) that you now need to take note of in June (the new month)?

·         Make a list…

·         Create a plan as to how you will apply each of these lessons daily…

·         Daily you must do something in line with where you want to go…
I want to also encourage you to identify those things that you really want to be reminded of throughout the month. e.g. I want to be reminded of God's love for me or I want to be told I am loved and appreciated.

Its really so important that you always know what fuel you need in your tank to keep you going.

Happy New Month – Happy June!

I Have an Expensive Taste

Wait a minute. You don’t know me. Before you judge me.
I simply love something then later on learn how expensive it really is.
I do not go around desiring only what is outside of my budget, that’s farthest from the truth.
I however, love something, style, make and then later on find out it’s not so affordable.

There are those who believe that the image of a man in a fine-tailored suit is to the female of the species what the image of a woman in lingerie is to a man: 'Oozing sexiness.'

It’s true, fine suits and tuxedos have almost always been the height of male fashion, lending wearer status and attendant charisma, machismo, and utter confidence.

On the other hand, the suit has lately been largely shunned by the high-flying, uber class of CEOs like Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page, with Silicone Valley bigwigs favouring jeans and scrappy tees as the suit becomes increasingly associated with the stuffy, high-powered finance magnate. It’s really all about how you wear it.

Although luxury fashion and beauty is normally associated with women, in the world of luxury fabrics and tailoring some of the most expensive men’s suits are still ludicrously extravagant in terms of pricing and quality. Most of us might blanch at the necessity of paying US$1,000 for a nice suit.

Despite these blaring truths, I openly admit that I do not know the brands and especially the more expensive ones. It’s really neither here nor there for me. When I look at it or when I put it on, no matter who likes it, if I am not feeling it, it’s a no go.

Why don’t we pursue our expensive taste more often than not?
There are several varying answers to that question.

I know I prefer to give away my cash than use it to spend on something expensive for myself.
I have learnt to balance and appreciate the much finer things in life.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way suggesting that those who persistently pursue their expensive taste are not appreciative of the finer things in life.
People always find ways to get whatever it is that they want from life. Our desires are amazing motivators to get us there and attract what we want.
